Art Quilt Portfolio: People & Portraits; review and a giveaway
The second book in a series on Art Quilts:
Art Quilt Portfolio: People & Portraits features 21 artists with a detailed interview and multiple quilts, and shows work of another 120 artists in galleries by theme [happiness, contemplation, community, icons, family & friends, work, and play.
The book is a joy to hold as well as to read.

QAYG: quilt as you go
There are several methods to do QAYG.
Search and you will find lots of ideas, suggestions, photos, tutorials.
Here is my approach:
I quilted this improv Logcabin in three rows.
I stopped quilting about two inches from each side.
{But you could quilt all the way to the edge on one side: the "bottom' side.*}
Then, layer the two rows.
On the bottom row, all three layers of the quilt sandwich stay intact. On the top row, turn back the batting and backing, then stitch the top to the bottom row's three layers.
Next, trim away the excess batting and backing from row one.
[* Note: if you stitched all the way to the edge on row 1, the excess should be trimmed away before attaching row two.]
Spread the two rows flat, and trim the excess batting of row 2, so that the batting butts against the row 1 batting.
Fold under the excessive backing so that the edge overlaps the seam line where row 1+2 joined, I secured the loose edge with a small strip of fusible [MistyFuse@ is my prefered brand].
Turn the quilt back over and quilt the unquilted areas.
The back looks great!
Repeat this process as many times as needed.
My finished blocks were 16.5 inches. No trouble under the machine!

It's May!!! What happened to April?
I don't know where April went..
of course even if it's 60"s windy, and raining there is yard work to do...
I've not taken any recent garden photos...
but here are a few quilt in progress photos:

two gallon bag
For the 2012 challenge Artrageous decided on a two gallon bag bag challenge:
take a two gallon ziploc, fill it with whatever you want. It goes home with some else, and you get someone's bag to use to make a quilt. This quilt goes back to the person who filled the bag.
This was the bag I recieved:

and is "OASIS" finished:
I reallY like this quilt! and am sad to see it deprat. It goes to Mary Miller, who unfortuantely was not present yesterday.
Ironically I got Mary's bag and she got mine:
This is the quilt she made me!
