HO HO HO blog hop and giveaway

It's my turn, well actually tomorrow is my day, but I'm posting a day early!

I LOVE Christmas fabric! Every year I say I'm not buying more, and every year I buy more.
I have one finished project and a couple of works in progress. Also there is a Christmas/winter top ready to be quilted is on last week's post.

First up is my version of the Scnibbles Full House pattern:

I used a charm pack of A Merry Little Christmas by Zoe Pearn for Riley Blake, and yardage for the border. [Confession: I cut the roofs wrong and had to order extra fabric! so I used it in the borders too!}

NEXT: Christmas Ornaments

This is from Vicki's pattern: Texas Teardrops http://www.quiltinglodgeblog.com/p/texas-teardrops-quilt-along.html at Quilting Lodge http://www.quiltinglodgeblog.com/
I made the blocks small and left more background space. I used a layer cake of Kate Spain's Joy from Moda [last year].
I think I will take this one apart and quilt it 1/2 at a time.

So yesterday, was my ArtQuilt group meeting, and the LQS {cotton Feilds, Washington, NC}had her anniversiary sale.
This fabric wouldn't let me leave the Store without it:

So I thought why not another house quilt?

BUT maybe it needs another border?

Of course it still needs doors on the houses, probably black on white, and maybe some beading after quilting.

WHAT DO YOU THINK? Green tree border, or NOT?
Leave a comment, and I'll pick a random winner to recieve my Scnibbles Full House pattern

Oh yes, the green needs to be there, but maybe a narrower stripey border too? its looking smashing!
Christmas what fun! And it will be here before we know it lol

Gill said...

Yes! definitely use the green border!
I love it!

Meredith said...

Love the little houses. Yes green border looks great, stripe borders could be narrow but maybe need to be cut so that top and bottom strips match stripe direction on sides. But that would mean undoing some stitching, sorry! Love all your Christmas fabrics.

The green looks good thanks

Thank you for admitting that you too have a slight addiction to Christmas fabric. I do too and am happy to know that there are more of us out there! I love the Texas Teardrop quilt. At first I thought it was just a pattern in the fabric. It is stunning. As for your question. Yes. Another border is in order here. Another border is always the right decision.....The bigger the better!

Yes to another border but I would use a darker, less busy fabric so the houses really popped out at the viewer.

What lovely quilts! Thank you for sharing them with us. Your house pattern is beautiful, but I really like the way the Texas Teardrop resembles Christmas ornaments.....genius!

My opinion: no need for the tree border- nice just the way it is! Thanks for your participation!

Your little houses need a green border and maybe also a narrow border in red. I love the quilt with the small houses. Thanks for sharing and being part of this blog hop.

I like it better without the green. I think you should leave it the way it is and just make the binding green if you want to pull out the greens in the houses. It will be lovely either way; I do like all your quilts!

I would definitely add the green for another border. I love the quilts, especially Christmas ornaments. When I saw this quilt on Vickies' blog, thats what it looked like to me,. I didn't think about making them smaller so thank you for a great idea. Now maybe I will make one also. Thanks for sharing and for the giveaway.

I love house blocks and think your quilts look great. Miss Rosey's designs are always so charming. The green border is my choice.

Marcy said...

I'm liking your houses. Green for sure.

Robin said...

I love those houses quilts! The borders you picked for the second one are just perfect. Binding it with red/white stripe fabric would look cool. Your Christmas Texas Teardrop is awesome! I have that pattern but haven't used it yet. Never thought to do it in holiday fabric!! I may just do that for halloween. Thanks for the great idea!

Linda C said...

I like the green but I think I would use the black stripe for binding--the houses, the black dot, the green and the black stripe for binding cut on the bias. BUT that's just me. Not my quilt.

I love the Texas Teardrop ornament quilt the best! Lovely.

Wonderful projects the houses are so cute. Thanks for offering a giveaway.

I think you should audition some other fabrics besides the green one. It seems to overwhelm the quilt, although with doors and windows on the houses it might have more balance. You're a very talented lady with all of your lovely works to show us! I'm very impressed.

Love your houses! great quilt. Yes, I agree, the green would look good.

Wow. I LOVE what you've done with the Texas Teardrops pattern. That is SO awesome!!!! I never did get a start on mine when I bought her pattern because no matter what store I went to there was none of the fusible in stock. I finally gave up but recently did find some.

Your quilt and needing another border? If it were me, I think I would not put a green border but might put a thin border or flange maybe of gold and then bind in the darker green.

Angelia Lanouette said...

Yes, I think you should definitely use the green tree border. It makes the houses look like a village surrounded by a lovely green forest. Thank you! anglanouette at gmail dot com

Beth said...

I love your little houses. And I also like the green border.

Fignie said...

I'm going with no to the border - BUT - if you can bind it in a bright lime like green it'd look pretty?

The ornaments had my mouth drop open - stunning! Simply amazingly beautiful!!!!

Suze said...

Oh, I cannot begin to tell you how I love the houses. I have been wanting to make a house quilt for years. I even bought fabric and still have not made a house quilt because until now, I hadn't found the right house pattern. I love Christmas, so maybe I'll have to make a house quilt out of Christmas fabric first as a "practice quilt" because I want to make a queen size house quilt eventually. Thank you for participating and sharing all the eye candy and the generous giveaway. I adore the Texas Teardrop quilt too and I think it is definitely on my want to do list. Thanks, thanks, thanks.

Oh I love the house quilts! So very adorable! I had to laugh about you Christmas fabric obsession. I'm the same way. So much great fabric every year!

sandra said...

Love your quilts the fabrics in both quilts are so cute, definitely the last one needs the green Christmas tree border to finishing off

LJ said...

Holy smokes, that's lots of projects for just one hop!! Wonderful use of the Christmas fabrics. I especially love the teardrops. Hmmm, the green trees border fabric should work fine but it seems a bit over-powering to me. What about a smaller border with it and then another blackish Christmas fabric on the outside?

Your quilts are lovely Katherine. I love the ornament one. Thanks for sharing them with us.

I don't care for the green border, perhaps a different print. The green is too busy, next to busy.

Absolutely love your Texas Tear ornaments. Thanks for the link. I like your green border but I would not make it as wide as on the left. I like the narrower treatment on the right. It also bothers me that your striped border is not identical on top and bottom. Also do you have enough of the striped fabric to do a bias binding? I think that would look fabulous.
