the perfect storm

As you probably know, quilters are about as demanding and fussy over their irons as their sewing machines...needless to say, we are always in search of the perfect irons.
I admit, I have almost as many irons as sewing machines.
I have a titanium plated Panasonic [in the box] especially for fusing.
I have a cordless iron, convenient, but not a great presser.
I have an old Rowenta, BUT my go to iron is currently a Reliant Digital Velocity iron.
Now you could use this thing to lift weights!

Why am I telling you this you ask?
well...I have started pressing seams open, which actually does require pressing with an iron.
I purposely set up my sewing space, so that I have to get up and cross to the ironing station [move around more, stretch].
Anyway, getting up to go turn on the iron, I pulled/dropped the iron on my foot.

OW!!! ***!*!
you can believe I saw stars and was nauseated for about 15-20 minutes afterwords.

I broke THREE bones in my foot!

Finding a shoe to fit is the hardest part of getting around now. I have a surgical boot, but it's height is different from all my shoes which makes me waddle and limp!

I think, at least temporarily for a month or two, I will set up a portable pressing station next to the sewing machine. In the spring a redo of the sewing room is in order.

SO this is what I was working on:

A Valentine inspired collage quilt using one of the older French Journal fabrics from Michael Miller. Of course it still has to be quilted...and maybe beaded or embellished.

I love this quilt and think it is well worth the pain and suffering you are now going through :)
Seriously, take care and heal well.

Good grief! I hope your foot feels better soon.

My husband has never understood how picky I am about irons. I made the mistake of taking him to look for one once. "Here," he said, "here's a perfectly good iron and cheap!" HA! Twenty irons later and I still hadn't found the right one, but he'd gone off to sit in a chair at the front of the store.

Your new project is wonderful!

Take care of yourself!

Ouch! Hope your foot heals quickly! I iron away from my sewing station also to make myself get up and move around. Your quilt is very pretty. I love the colors. Thanks for sharing.

Ouch is right! I broke my big toe two summers ago by dropping a glass table top on it. The picture I took looked a lot like yours, but it took me three weeks to see a doctor (long story). I hate to tell you how long it took to heal after that I was in a sneaker for a long time. Good luck!

I also am very fussy about my irons, but I still love my Rowenta.

And your quilt looks great!

well I broke my foot a year and a half ago - the funny thing is that it didn't hurt but it looked just like yours - so I didn't think I broke it. Just pulled out my bigger shoes and took some advil for the inflammation. In two days I could walk regularly and it took 4 mo for it look normal. It literally took at least 9 mo for it all the swelling to go down. My dr could not believe I never bother having it checked! but gosh you'd think it would hurt wouldn't ya?? hope you heal fast and good luck on the new iron! love the start on your quilt - love the play on pattern!

OUCH...that looks like one sore foot. I have a Rowenta and I too press my seams open :) Looking forward to getting to know you better in Pamela's class. Love the collage!

Ouch! I think you need to redo your sewing room right now. Have someone come and do all the moving work while you direct - after all you have a broken foot. :) Hope it heals quickly. I love your Valentine piece - such pretty fabric.

Ouch on the foot. I dropped a 28 oz can of tomato's on my foot. It took 2 years for the docs to find the break (they couldn't see it on xray until the calcium showed up on a radioactive xray. I wore that boot for most of the 2 years. I was grouchy for a very long time. I ended up looking for shoes that brought my short foot up to the same level as the boot. Dankos. Expensive yes. but my back stopped hurting. BTW I love my reliable iron
